Tribal Tattoo Stencil and Design Lab

In this design lab you will gain practical experience translating traditional tribal motifs into tattoo-ready stencils while maintaining respect for their cultural origins. Ideal for tattoo artists who want to sharpen their design skills and deepen their understanding of tribal artistry.

• Essential tools for stencil design: traditional and modern methods
• Preparing materials for stencil creation and transfer
• Polynesian, Maori, African and Native American design elements
• Analysing the structure of tribal tattoos: lines, curves and patterns
• Combining traditional elements into cohesive, tattoo-ready designs
• Step-by-step process for turning artwork into stencils
• Layering and adapting designs for different body contours
• Troubleshooting common challenges in stencil preparation
• Practising on a variety of surfaces to mimic skin contours
• Peer review and feedback on stencil accuracy and design cohesion

To complete you will pass an oral and written exam and demonstrate an understanding of all theory information. Practicum hours are discussed on completion of the in-class portion.
